Fuel Members React to PAN-OS® 8.0: Theft Prevention & Threat Intelligence

Posted by Fuel HQ on Mar 1, 2017, 8:00:00 AM

Palo Alto Networks launched the new PAN-OS® 8.0 in February, and Fuel volunteers Jason, Steinar and Eugene were invited to beta test PAN-OS® 8.0 and share their feedback.

This roundtable edition centers on what Fuel beta testers think about new PAN-OS® 8.0 capabilities impacting theft prevention and threat intelligence.

Here's what they had to say:

On their impressions of the new credential
theft prevention capabilities of
PAN-OS® 8.0:

Jason: I am very excited to lab this up.

Steinar: Really interesting — and easy to argue a need to implement this.

Eugene: I think it’s great; the ability to block users who may be unwillingly entering their corporate username and passwords on non-trusted external sites or phishing sites is a much-needed feature.

On PAN-OS® 8.0 utilizing machine learning to enhance threat intelligence and address "zero day" threats:

Jason: I think machine learning will be a key component going forward to help prevent threats.

Steinar
: I think this has been one of the points people have been anxious about prior to this release. It will be easier to jump these discussions now.

Eugene
: Machine learning can analyze a lot of files a lot faster than what a human can do; this should hopefully mean that it’s quicker to detect and more importantly protect against “zero day” threats.

On PAN-OS® 8.0 having a fully integrated “single pane of glass” management capability to help organizations improve cybersecurity strategies:

Jason: Ease of administration.

Steinar
: One-stop security shop resonates well in this regard. Visibility is key.

Eugene
: A “single pane of glass” provides greater visibility. With such visibility, organizations can see what is going on, see where their cybersecurity strategies are lacking and make the necessary changes and improvements.
